OMAN LOGISTICS INDUSTRY’S TRENDS

OMAN Logistics Industry Trends

The logistics industry in the Sultanate of Oman is experiencing a change to conquer infrastructure bottleneck, lack of investment in port handling capacity, and poor land transport network with other GCC nations. The Logistics segment is one of the main non-oil economic sectors and contributed real stake in the nation’s GDP, the government is hence enthused about promoting Oman as a main logistics center in the region.

The key drivers for logistics industry in Oman’s economic development are the infrastructure investments related with national logistics development plans, economic diversification efforts, and trade with the GCC, Asia and Sub-Saharan African nations.

As a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Oman is probably going to benefit by trade policies and customs regulations and integration of national transport infrastructure with territorial transportation corridors in the GCC. The Oman Logistics Plan and the Oman Logistics Strategy (SOLS) plan to improve the nation’s soft infrastructure, especially the regulatory environment, support mechanisms, and organizations. Oman’s strategic centralized location in the Arabian Gulf makes it perfect for conversion into a noteworthy transshipment hub for the East-West exchange route.

1. Some of the key trends identified in the Oman logistics industry are :

Initiated by the Supreme Council of Planning (SCP), the task force has developed the Sultanate of Oman Logistics Strategy.

Investments on infrastructure and latest technology for upgrading ports, airport facilities, new road links, supported by increased Government spending.

High priority is given for the development of national rail network to connect with the GCC rail network to improve efficiency and reduce logistics costs.

Trade with the GCC, Asia, and Europe is likely to remain the major driver for freight forwarding and transportation companies in the region.

Main exports continue to be mineral fuels, oils distillation by-products, while imports comprise manufacturing goods and agriculture products.

Among all cargo activities in Oman, ocean transport is the dominating mode, accounting of cargo in Oman dealt with by Sohar and Salalah Ports. As a feature of the government’s plan, Port Sohar has been reserved to deal with ocean freight as an alternative to Muscat.

The road freight in Oman is driven by domestic financial activities to meet local demand and land-based trade with other GCC nations. New route between Oman and the KSA gives a more direct route between the two nations as well as reduced the number of border crossings, while expanding road transport efficiencies. As international trade gains momentum force with the development of freight taking care of limits in major airports.

2. Oman’s Logistics Transformation :

Oman’s Logistics Industry can possibly be one among the key Logistics Centres in the region. The accentuation on domestic output is creating scope for substantial cargo volume growth to and from Oman. This can trigger improved connectivity and networking, which would then prompt be changing the logistics industry to support trade for other countries as well.

Nonetheless, this development could be challenged by surging competition from the UAE and the KSA, alongside different nations with comparable portfolios and venture scenarios for the logistics industry. The inefficient logistics infrastructure (particularly, in the sub-urban regions) increasing the potential expenses and time effectiveness of the logistics operations, and lack of skilled labour relating to logistics services to help the growing requirements of the market, are also significant challenges.

LogixGRID’s trusted solution LogixERP has marked its presence in the Middle East and more than 10+ countries. South Asia Logistics

India’s consolidated trade with the seven SAARC countries and Myanmar climbed to 3.56 percent of total trade. The share of the neighborhood in total exports increased from 5.72 percent in FY14 to 7.75 percent in FY18, with Bangladesh and Nepal pulling up the averages. South Asia Logistics is to expand with impressive growth rate in coming years.

1. Myanmar heading for Stable development :

The Myanmar freight and logistics market is estimated to be valued at more than USD 4 billion and is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of more than 7.5% during the forecast period.

South Asia Logistics transformation driven by the increasing trade activity, improving connectivity, and entry of major international players.

Lack of proper transport infrastructure has hindered the growth of the logistics sector in the country for many years. However, the ongoing developments in the country present a lot of opportunities for the logistics players.

The strategic geographical location of the country is an important factor in attracting investments. The location of the country has a special significance in the Asia-Pacific region, connecting the two major economies of China and India. The country acts like a continental bridge connecting the regions of South Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia.

Most of the logistics players in the country, more than three-fourths of them are involved in provision of common services, such as unloading, loading, customs clearance, and forwarding services, while the remaining companies provide value-added services, such as labeling, shipment tracking, and cold storage. As the demand for these services is growing, more number of companies are adding these kind of services to their existing business portfolio.

2. Nepal trade rise :

Nepal is striving for good infrastructure, manufacturing industries are the potential agents of change and socio-economic growth but firstly, issues related to logistics and organised transportation routes need to be addressed.

India also made progress in improving trade logistics, invested heavily in cross-country electricity infrastructure that helped mitigate the power shortage in Nepal, lined up investments in oil pipeline, and rail connectivity.

Logistics service in Nepal has its bearing with the operation of gateway port of Kolkata and Haldia. There is need of harmonization of customs and port processes both in the port and dry port so that document and processes are made simple and effective to support just in time delivery of goods and reduce transaction costs. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) would be the means of moving to faster clearances of goods and decrease the waiting time in customs and port.

3. Bangladesh thriving to be on top :

India-Bangladesh relations are seeing a relentless improvement since 2010. The momentum picked up quality in the course of the most recent four years, with India venturing up its financial assistance program.

Bangladeshi export related logistics, especially that of food and textile, operate at an advanced state in comparison with the rest of the country’s logistics sector. The development of export related logistics is stimulated by foreign freight forwarders and third party logistics (3PL), i.e. foreign parties that offer logistics services, integrating, among others, warehousing, transportation and other logistic services.

A substantial part of the development happened when Indian exports grew, riding essentially on demand for vehicles, oil, cereals and cotton.

Bangladesh showed the biggest improvement in infrastructure, having manufacturing ambitions beyond the apparel sector. Bangladesh is the world’s second largest exporter of ready-made garments. Bangladesh’s textile exports to India doubled, paving the way for a 30 per cent jump in total exports. The country wants to grow its pharmaceutical, steel, shipbuilding and food processing industries.

PRICE HIKE DUE TO INEFFICIENT TMS

Price Hike due to TMS

Transportation challenges by rising freight rates, driver deficiencies, tight truck capacity, and changing client requests, manufacturers are utilizing more technology to work through these and other transportation-driven problems.

As the true workhorses of the supply chain management software cluster, transportation management systems (TMS) have become the “must have” for organizations – working under the pressures of e-commerce and Omni channel – need to move past clipboards, spreadsheets, and phone calls to deal with their inexorably refined transportation networks.

The growth of TMS demonstrates how it’s being utilized to enable manufacturers to stay active and on time with transportation.

1. Cost Efficient : A major factor

Positioned between a manufacturers enterprise resource planning system (ERP) and its warehouse management system (WMS), TMS automates the inbound and outbound shipping processes.

This software additionally handles the execution procedure (i.e., rate acceptance, carrier dispatch, etc.) and gives visibility into the delivery procedure.

A progressively modern TMS is delivered via Cloud and accompanies data analytics, transportation optimization capabilities as well as the ability to track key performance indicators (KPIs).

2. Need of new age TMS :

The pain areas for manufacturers right now are the metrics, analytics, and KPIs that a cutting edge TMS can give. That data can be utilized to make better decisions. Generally, a TMS paints a KPI/metric-based image of the whole end-to-end supply chain. It additionally interfaces with trading partners the value chain – vendors, customers, freight providers, and transporters – thus creating a complete loop that logistics professionals can go to as a reliable source of data and intelligence.

More manufacturers harness this TMS capacity and then use it as decent information hotspot for how the whole supply chain is performing. This pattern is driving TMS functionality overall at the present and is prompting vendors to mesh such abilities into their solutions.

TMS utilization is growing crosswise over new industries, including mineral, mining and other crude material-oriented organizations, because of the need to all the more successfully oversee expenses, rates, assets, people and transportation all in all.

3. Logix.Network, a new age cloud TMS which is powered with AI :

Logix Network is an AI driven cloud TMS which provides an online networking platform for manufacturers to streamline the information flow. It’s one of its kind network which helps manufacturers to streamline Inbound & Outbound logistics. And gives freedom to manage all the dispatches on single platform from multiple logistics providers enabling them to monitor vendor KPIs, centralized tracking of vehicles, freight computation, invoice validation, analytics & reporting. It also helps manufacturers to get predictive analysis of the which vehicle is to be allotted for what type of shipment on basis of the quantity, weight and dimensions.

While we’ve provided several types of data that are often obtained by apps, the App Developer should make a reasonable attempt to ensure to provide Users with a clear, illustrative list of the most important data points obtained by each app. Moreover, the model policy attempts to draw a distinction between data that is provided directly by a User (“User Provided Information”) and data that is collected automatically by the PRASHAR Konnect (“Automatically Collected Information”). The LogixGRID recognizes that this distinction may not be in harmony with the data privacy practices of all PRASHAR Konnect, and therefore encourages App Developers to work to an attorney and/or privacy professional to ensure that the information they provide in this section is in line with the actual data flows for each PRASHAR Konnect(s).
